PREVIOUS CREATION[speedspeedspeed]
This 1996 Tahoe was ordered in 1995 and at no point was the true virtuosity of this project realized, and the end result was well worth the blood, sweat and tears poured into Black Beauty.
[outside]
The first change to the exterior was the removal of all the trim badges and moldings, making the lines and smoothness of the rig much more pronounced. Then all the chrome was removed and either replaced with an aftermarket part or painted gloss black. A speed grill insert was put in the grill as well as the custom lower valence housing a set of PIAA lights. Carbon fiber altezza lights and clear corner lenses up front help make the color scheme more pronounced.
[wheels/tires/suspension]
One of the more involved changes made to this Tahoe were in the way of handling. This 4x4 was lowered 4/5" using a Belltech lowering kit. Hellwig sway bars were added front and back. Edelbrock IAS shock were added to minimize body roll while keeping the ride tolerable. Wheel and tire selection
was crucial to complete the look of this rig. After going through 4 sets of wheels/tires it was finally decided to go

with a custom offset B. Coddington wheel. This wheel was a 17" and utilized 285/60r17 Yokohama AVS-Sts. The custom offset was essential to get the front wheels tucked within the fenders and eliminate any possible rubbing issues.
[performance vroom]
Once all the pretty stuff was done to the truck, it was necessary to make it go as fast as it looked. This was done with a 325 horse GM crate engine (after the 5.7l was blown with a little too much n2o). A custom head and cam package was utilized. All the other bolt-ons were used also (air intake, Hypertech, exhaust, power pulleys, etc...). The rear end gear ratio was changed from 3.42 to 4.10. A new drivetrain was also installed including a new beefcake 4L60E, 2800rpm stall convertor and a custom shift kit. The kicker for this engine package was the 150 shot of n2o. This was done with a custom Nitrous Express kit from the great guys at Nitrous Warehouse in Houston.
After all was said and done this rig run away from Civics and other all day long, and when on the bottle, hang with new LS1 cars. The truck has made more than a dozen dyno pulls with a best of 417rwhp and 541rwtq (on the bottle). This also propelled the beast to consistant 13.8s at 98mph down the .25 mile! Launching in 4 wheel hi pulled consistant 1.9s 60' times and turned heads down the entire drag strip!
